The United States Virgin Islands is a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea. Athletes from these islands first joined the Olympic Games in 1968. Since then, they have sent athletes to almost every Summer Olympic Games. They only missed the 1980 Games because they joined a boycott of the Moscow Olympics.

The Virgin Islands have also taken part in seven Olympic Winter Games since 1988. They only missed the 2010 Winter Olympics. So far, the Virgin Islands have won one Olympic medal. It was a silver medal won by Peter Holmberg in sailing at the 1988 Summer Olympics.

The Virgin Islands Olympic Committee was created in 1967. The International Olympic Committee recognized it in the same year. This allowed their athletes to compete in the Olympics.
