Xavier Malisse, born on July 19, 1980, is a tennis coach and a former professional tennis player from Belgium. People sometimes called him X-Man. He is one of only two Belgian men to have been ranked among the top 20 tennis players in the world. His highest ranking was No. 19.

Playing Career Highlights

Early Years as a Junior Player

As a young player, Xavier Malisse had a great record. He won 66 matches and lost only 18. In 1997, he became the 10th best junior player in the world. That same year, he reached the quarterfinals at the famous Wimbledon tournament for juniors. He finished his junior career by winning the Eddie Herr tournament.

Turning Professional: 1998–2008

Malisse started playing tennis professionally in 1998. One of his biggest achievements was reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2002. He beat several strong players, including former champion Richard Krajicek. He played a very close match in the semi-final but lost to David Nalbandian.

In 2004, Malisse won a major doubles title at the French Open with his partner Olivier Rochus. He also won three singles titles on the ATP Tour. These wins were in Delray Beach in 2005 and 2007, and in Chennai in 2007.

Career in the Later Years: 2009–2013

In 2009, Malisse's ranking dropped, but he worked hard to improve. He played well at the Australian Open, winning his qualifying matches. He then won his first main draw match before losing to Andy Roddick. Later that year, he won a Challenger tournament in Lyon, which helped him get back into the top 100 players.

In 2011, Xavier started the year by reaching the final in Chennai. He also won a doubles title at the Indian Wells Masters with Alexandr Dolgopolov. He continued his good form at Wimbledon, reaching the fourth round.

In 2012, he again reached the fourth round at Wimbledon. There, he played against the legendary Roger Federer. Malisse fought hard, winning the third set, but Federer eventually won the match and went on to win the tournament.

Malisse officially retired from professional tennis in 2013.

Coming Out of Retirement for Doubles: 2021–2022

After retiring, Malisse returned to play doubles in a few tournaments. In 2021, he played at the European Open with Lloyd Harris, who he was coaching. They had a great run, reaching the semi-finals and beating some top teams along the way.

He also played at the 2022 European Open in 2022 with Diego Schwartzman. They won their first match but lost in the quarterfinals.
