AFI's 100 Years... 100 Stars facts for kids

AFI's 100 Years... 100 Stars is a special list created by the American Film Institute (AFI). It names the top actors and actresses from the history of Hollywood movies. This list was first announced on June 16, 1999.

The AFI had planned to include one hundred famous people on the list. However, in the end, the list featured fifty amazing stars. These fifty stars were chosen for their incredible talent and impact on film.

As of 2020, only two of these fifty stars were still alive: Sidney Poitier (a man) and Sophia Loren (a woman). When the list was first revealed, other famous stars like Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Shirley Temple, Lauren Bacall, Marlon Brando, Gregory Peck, and Kirk Douglas were also still living.

The List of Legends

This table shows the fifty actors and actresses chosen by the AFI as the greatest legends in Hollywood history. They are ranked from number 1 to number 25 for both male and female stars.
