André Miguel Valente da Silva (born 6 November 1995) is a Portuguese professional footballer. He plays as a striker for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
André Silva started his career at Porto. He played well for their reserve team. He then joined the main team in 2015. He played 58 games for Porto and scored 24 goals. In 2017, he moved to AC Milan.
Later, he played for Sevilla and Eintracht Frankfurt on loan. He signed a permanent deal with Frankfurt in 2020. He had a great season there, scoring 28 goals. After that, he moved to RB Leipzig in Germany.
Silva also played for Portugal at different youth levels. He helped the under-19 team finish second in the 2014 UEFA European Under-19 Championship. He made his debut for the senior national team two years later. He played in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, where Portugal finished third. He also played in two World Cups and Euro 2020.
André Silva's Club Journey
Starting at Porto
Early Years and Youth Teams
André Silva was born in Baguim do Monte, Portugal. He began playing football at Salgueiros after trying swimming. He briefly played for Boavista, but soon returned to Salgueiros.
He finished his youth training at Porto. He joined their junior team in 2011 when he was 15. On 12 August 2013, he played his first professional game. He came on as a substitute for the B team. They won 3–2 against Beira-Mar.
In his second season with Porto B, he played 34 games. He scored seven goals. This helped the team finish 13th in the league. He scored two goals in one game on 4 January 2015. Porto B won 3–0 against Vitória de Guimarães B.
Playing for Porto's Main Team
Silva first played for Porto's main team on 29 December 2015. He played the whole game in a 1–3 loss to Marítimo. His first game in the Primeira Liga was four days later. He came on as a substitute in a 2–0 loss to Sporting CP.
At the start of the 2015–16 season, Silva was not a first-choice striker. But when José Peseiro became the new manager, he got more chances. He scored his first league goal in a 4–0 win against Boavista. This was in the last match of the season.
He also started in the Taça de Portugal final on 22 May. He scored two goals against Braga. One of his goals was a bicycle kick in the last minute. Porto lost the final 4–2 after penalties.
Silva started the 2016–17 season very well. He scored in his first two league games. He also scored in a UEFA Champions League match against Roma. On 21 August 2016, he signed a new five-year contract.
Time at AC Milan
On 12 June 2017, Silva moved to AC Milan in Italy. He signed a five-year contract. He was very happy to join such a famous club. He was given the number 9 shirt.
Silva played his first game for Milan on 27 July. It was a UEFA Europa League qualifying match. On 17 August, he scored two goals and made one assist in a 6–0 win. On 14 September, he scored three goals in a game against Austria Wien. This was a hat-trick, and he was the first Milan player to do this in Europe since 2006. He scored his first goal in the Serie A league on 11 March 2018. It was a last-minute header in a 1–0 win against Genoa.
On 11 August 2018, Silva joined Spanish club Sevilla on loan for a season. He played his first game the next day. He came on as a substitute in a 2–1 loss to Barcelona. He scored three goals in his first La Liga match on 19 August. Sevilla won 4–1 against Rayo Vallecano. He also scored two goals against Real Madrid on 26 September.
On 25 November 2018, Silva scored the only goal in a win over Real Valladolid. Sevilla was temporarily leading the league table. However, his performance dropped later in the season. Sevilla decided not to sign him permanently.
Success at Eintracht Frankfurt
On 2 September 2019, Silva moved to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. He joined on a two-year loan deal. He played his first Bundesliga game 12 days later. He scored his first goal in the league on 22 September. It was in a 2–2 draw against Borussia Dortmund.
After the league restarted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Silva scored eight goals in ten games. He finished the season with 12 goals. This was a new record for a Portuguese player in the German top league.
On 10 September 2020, Silva signed a permanent three-year contract with Frankfurt. He was named Player of the Month for January. He scored 28 goals in the season. This broke a 44-year-old club record for goals in a top-flight season. Only Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski scored more goals that season.
Moving to RB Leipzig
Silva joined RB Leipzig on 2 July 2021. He signed a five-year contract. On 20 August, he scored his first goal for Leipzig in a 4–0 win. His first UEFA Champions League goal for them was on 19 October. It was in a 3–2 loss against Paris Saint-Germain. He also scored two goals in their winning run in the DFB-Pokal cup.
On 2 August 2023, Silva moved to Spanish club Real Sociedad on a season-long loan. He played his first game on 30 September. He came on as a substitute in a 3–0 win.
On 3 February 2025, Silva was loaned to Werder Bremen. This loan will last until the end of the season.
Playing for Portugal
Youth National Teams
Silva played for Portugal at every youth level. He played for the under-20 team in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored four goals in the group stage. The team reached the quarter-finals.
Before that, in the 2014 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, he made history. He scored four goals in one match against Hungary. This was a 6–1 win. The under-19 team finished as runners-up in that tournament.
On 8 September 2015, he played his first game for the under-21 team. He scored three goals in just 19 minutes. This helped Portugal win 6–1 against Albania.
Senior National Team
André Silva was first called up to the senior national team on 26 August 2016. He played in a 5–0 friendly win against Gibraltar on 1 September. He scored his first goal for Portugal on 7 October. It was in a 6–0 win against Andorra. Three days later, he scored three goals in the first half against the Faroe Islands. Portugal won that game 6–0.
Silva was chosen for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. He played his first game in the tournament against Mexico. He scored his first goal in the competition on 24 June. It was in a 4–0 win against New Zealand. In the third-place play-off, his penalty was saved. But Portugal still won 2–1 against Mexico after extra time.
In May 2018, Silva was part of Portugal's team for the FIFA World Cup in Russia. He scored the 1000th goal in the national team's history in a friendly against Tunisia. He played his first World Cup game on 15 June. It was a 3–3 draw against Spain.
Silva was also selected for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. He played in the round of 16 match against Belgium. In November 2022, he was in the squad for the World Cup in Qatar. He played for 30 minutes in the 2–1 loss to South Korea.
