Daria Werbowy (born November 19, 1983) is a famous Canadian fashion model. She became a special representative, called a spokesmodel, for the French beauty brand Lancôme in 2005.

She has been on the cover of Vogue magazine more than 50 times around the world. This is a huge achievement in the fashion industry. After working for ten years, she decided to take a break from modeling. Even then, she was still one of the top models in the world. Vogue magazine once called her the "ultimate model muse." This means she was a big inspiration for many designers and photographers.

About Daria's Life

Daria Werbowy was born in Kraków, Poland. She has one brother and one sister. When she was three years old, her family moved to Mississauga, Canada. This city is near Toronto. They moved to Canada to find a better life after the World Wars had affected their family for many years.

Daria is very thankful to Canada. She believes she would not have had the same amazing chances if she had stayed in Europe.

Sailing Adventures

Daria loves to sail. She is a very skilled sailor. In 2008, she spent three months sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. She also sailed through the Mediterranean Sea.

In 2011, she went on another big trip. She spent two months exploring Central America. She traveled from Guatemala all the way to Costa Rica.

Daria's Modeling Career

Daria never really thought about becoming a model. She was more of a tomboy when she was younger. But many people told her she should try modeling. When she was 14 years old, she was already 5 feet 11 inches tall. A local agency in Toronto signed her. She even won a national modeling contest.

Early Challenges

Daria later joined Elite Model Management. She got some good jobs in Canada. But she did not have much success internationally at first. She lived in England and Greece, but work was hard to find.

Her first big fashion show season was canceled. This happened because of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City. So, she went to Europe. After eight tough months, Daria returned to Canada. She decided to try modeling one last time. She wanted to earn money for art school.

She said, "I went back to New York. I met my agent. The very next day, I had a special deal with Prada. After that, everything happened very fast."

Becoming a Top Model

When the head scout from Elite Toronto, Elmer Olsen, started his own agency, Daria followed him. Her career then really took off. Within a few years, with help from IMG Models, Daria became famous around the world.

Daria holds a special record. She has opened and closed the most fashion shows in one season. This means she was chosen to start and end many shows. In her first big season, Fall/Winter 2003, she achieved two major things. She was on the cover of Vogue Italia three times. She also got the main ad campaign for Prada.

In 2005, she signed a big contract with Lancôme. This was after a competition between Lancôme and Victoria's Secret. Victoria's Secret wanted her to be one of their "Angels."

Magazine Covers and Campaigns

Daria has been on the cover of many famous magazines. These include international editions of Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, V, W, and Marie Claire.

She has also walked the runways for many top fashion brands. These include Balenciaga, Givenchy, Dior, Gucci, Versace, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel.

Daria has appeared in advertising campaigns for many well-known companies. Some of these are Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Hermés, Prada, Dior, Lancôme, and H&M.

In September 2008, Daria was on one of the 14 covers of V magazine. Each cover showed a famous model. Vogue Paris also named her one of the top 30 models of the 2000s.

Thoughts on Modeling

Daria has sometimes had mixed feelings about her job. In 2013, she said in an interview: "Sometimes I am still surprised that I'm a model and that people think I'm good-looking. I've gone through a lot of different phases on what I do and why I do it. I just had to learn to look at it as a job. I thought, Okay, this is a chance to learn and see and meet people. Still, I am quite competitive. If I'm going to do something, I'm going to do it as best I can."

Continued Success

Daria was in the 2009 and 2011 editions of the Pirelli Calendar. These calendars feature famous models and are photographed by top artists.

She was ranked No. 6 on Forbes' list of "The World's Top-Earning Models" in 2011. She earned about $4.5 million between May 2010 and May 2011.

For Vogue's September 2013 issue, Daria appeared in a special photo story. It was about her life in Ireland. She was photographed with actor Adam Driver by Annie Leibovitz.

In 2015, Daria was the face of campaigns for brands like Equipment and Salvatore Ferragamo. She also appeared on the March and June covers of Vogue France. In 2015, Forbes listed her as the 12th highest-paid model. She earned an estimated $4.5 million that year. In 2016, she was on the October cover of Grazia France.

Retirement and Return

In 2016, Daria decided to retire from modeling. She was still a very popular model at the time. She wanted to spend more time on her interests, like photography and sailing.

Vogue magazine looked back at her career. They called her the "ultimate model muse." They noted how she could change her look for different roles. They also said her relaxed attitude was important to her success.

In 2023, Daria Werbowy returned to modeling. She appeared in a campaign for Gucci. This was for the brand's new creative director, Sabato de Sarno.
