"Into the Unknown" is a popular song from the 2019 Disney movie Frozen II. It is sung by Idina Menzel, who is the voice of Elsa, and also features the voice of Norwegian singer Aurora. The husband-and-wife team, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, wrote both the music and the words for the song.
This song was nominated for several big awards, like the Academy Award, the Critics' Choice Movie Award, and the Golden Globe Award. Even though it was nominated, it didn't win these awards.

How the Song Was Made
Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez also wrote the songs for the first Frozen movie. They helped create the story for Frozen II too. As they worked on the story, they decided where songs would fit best to help the story move forward.
They needed a very important song for Elsa. At first, they wrote a song called "I Seek the Truth." But then, they came up with the idea of Elsa hearing a mysterious voice. This new idea led them to write "Into the Unknown" instead.
Idina Menzel first sang the song in her dressing room. The songwriters brought a small keyboard for her to practice with.
What the Song Means
The song "Into the Unknown" is Elsa's main song in Frozen II. It includes a special siren call that you hear throughout the movie's music. This call sounds like an old Scandinavian singing style called kulning.
The song is about Elsa's feelings and her big decision. She keeps hearing a mysterious voice calling her. The song shows her struggle about whether to stay safe in Arendelle or follow the voice to find out where it comes from.
Clark Spencer, who is the president of Disney Animation Studios, said the song is like an anthem. He explained that it's about feeling called to do something new, even if you don't know where it will lead. It encourages you to "follow your calling."
Different Language Versions
When Frozen II was released in theaters, it was dubbed into 48 different languages. The song "Into the Unknown" alone had 47 different versions! Later, Indonesian and Malay versions were added.
For example, the French version used in Europe and Canada was sung by Charlotte Hervieux. The Dutch and German versions were both sung by Willemijn Verkaik. Spanish singer Gisela sang both the Catalan and European Spanish versions.
Some languages, like Tamil, Telugu, and Northern Sami, got dubs for Frozen II even though the first Frozen movie wasn't translated into them. The Sami version was special because the movie was inspired by Sami culture.
On December 13, 2019, Disney released a video with 29 different language versions of the song. Later, at the 92nd Academy Awards on February 9, 2020, Idina Menzel and Aurora performed the song. They were joined by nine international singers who sang parts of the song in their own languages.
