The Ketuvim is the third and final part of the Tanakh, also known as the Hebrew Bible. It comes after the Torah (which means "instruction") and the Nevi'im (which means "prophets"). In English, this section is usually called "Writings." Another name for it is Hagiographa.

What is the Ketuvim?

The word "Ketuvim" is Hebrew for "Writings." These books are a collection of different types of texts. They include poetry, wisdom literature, historical accounts, and more.

Special Books with Special Messages

People believe the books in the Ketuvim were written with divine inspiration. This means God guided the writers. However, this guidance is seen as slightly different from direct prophecy. It's like God gave them ideas and wisdom to write, but not always direct messages for the future.

How Many Books Are There?

There are eleven books in the Ketuvim. Some of these books are grouped together. For example, the First and Second Chronicles are counted as one book. Also, Ezra and Nehemiah are combined into a single unit called "Ezra–Nehemiah".
