Aaron was an important person in ancient history, mentioned in both the Bible and the Qu'ran. He was the older brother of Moses, and together they led the Hebrews out of Egypt. His story is told in detail in the Book of Exodus in the Bible.
Aaron: Moses' Helper
Aaron played a key role in helping Moses speak to Pharaoh, the King of Egypt. Moses sometimes felt unsure about speaking to such a powerful ruler. So, God told Moses that Aaron would be his "prophet" or spokesperson.
The Bible says in Exodus 7:1-3: "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet. You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country..." This meant Aaron would deliver God's messages to Pharaoh on behalf of Moses.
Aaron's Amazing Staff
Aaron's staff was used by God to perform several miracles. These miracles were meant to convince Pharaoh to free the Israelites.
One time, God told Moses and Aaron: "When Pharaoh says to you, 'Perform a miracle,' then say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,' and it will become a snake."
So, Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh. Aaron threw his staff down, and it really turned into a snake! Pharaoh's magicians also tried to do the same trick. But Aaron's staff, now a snake, swallowed up all the snakes made by the magicians.
Another time, Aaron used his staff to turn the Nile River into blood. He "stretched it out" over the river. The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled terrible. The Egyptians could not drink the water because it had turned to blood. These events are recorded in the Bible.
