Middle Township is a community located in Cape May County, New Jersey. It is part of the Ocean City area and also the larger Philadelphia metropolitan area. In 2020, the township had a population of 20,380 people. This was the highest number of residents ever recorded for Middle Township. The area known as Cape May Court House is the main town of Cape May County.

Discovering Middle Township's Past
Middle Township was first created on April 2, 1723. It became an official township on February 21, 1798. Over time, some parts of Middle Township became separate towns. These include North Wildwood, Avalon, Wildwood, Stone Harbor, and West Wildwood. The township got its name because it was located in the middle when Cape May County was divided into three townships in 1723. The other two were Lower Township and Upper Township.

Middle Township covers about 82.92 square miles (214.77 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with some water.
Several communities are located within Middle Township. These include Burleigh, Cape May Court House, Rio Grande, and Whitesboro. Other smaller places in the township are Del Haven, Dias Creek, Goshen, and Swainton.
Middle Township shares borders with several other towns in Cape May County. It also touches the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay.
Ike's Point is a unique swampy area in the township. It is one of only five places in the United States with an apostrophe in its official name. This was allowed because the name would be hard to recognize without it.

In 2010, Middle Township had 18,911 people living in 7,256 homes. About half of the homes were married couples. Around 24.7% of homes had children under 18. The average age of people in the township was 44.6 years.
Education in Middle Township
The Middle Township Public Schools educate students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The district has four schools. These include two elementary schools, a middle school, and Middle Township High School. In the 2018–19 school year, about 2,608 students attended these schools.
Students from nearby towns like Avalon, Dennis Township, Stone Harbor, and Woodbine also attend Middle Township High School.
Students in Cape May County can also go to Cape May County Technical High School. This school offers different programs, including vocational training. For students with special needs, the Cape May County Special Services School District is available.
There is also a private Christian school called Cape Christian Academy in Middle Township. The Bishop McHugh Regional School, a Catholic school, is in nearby Dennis Township. The only Catholic high school in the county is Wildwood Catholic Academy in North Wildwood.
The Cape May County Library has a branch in Cape May Court House.
Transportation and Roads

Middle Township has many miles of roads. Some are maintained by the township, others by Cape May County, and some by the state.
The Garden State Parkway is a major highway that runs through Middle Township. Other important roads include U.S. Route 9, Route 47, and Route 147.
Public Transportation Options
NJ Transit provides bus services for residents. Buses connect Middle Township to cities like Philadelphia and Atlantic City. There are also seasonal bus routes to Midtown Manhattan.
The Great American Trolley Company offers trolley rides during the summer. These trolleys take people from North Wildwood and Wildwood to shopping centers in Rio Grande.
