Trevor Jamieson's Early Life
Trevor Jamieson was born in Subiaco, Western Australia on March 7, 1975. He grew up in the Western Australian Goldfields area, near places like Kalgoorlie and Esperance, Western Australia. His family comes from the Central Desert region, including Nullarbor and Maralinga.
Trevor has family connections to the Pitjantjara people (from his father's side) and the Noongar people (from his mother's side). His mother was part of the Stolen Generations, meaning she was taken from her grandmother by missionaries when she was a baby. Because of this, Trevor learned more about his father's family and culture as he grew up. Both his father and grandfather were policemen.
His aunt, Lynette Markle, is related to the famous playwright Jack Davis. This meant Trevor was around plays and acting from a young age. He loved being in school plays. In 1992, his aunt encouraged him to try out for a role instead of becoming a police officer. This led to his first big acting job in the musical Bran Nue Dae, which toured all over Australia.
Trevor is also a cousin to the actress Natasha Wanganeen.
Trevor Jamieson's Acting Career
Trevor Jamieson is known for his many talents. He acts, dances, sings, writes plays, and plays the didgeridoo.
Stage Performances
Trevor's first stage role was in Bran Nue Dae in 1993. In 1994, he acted in Wild Cat Falling in Sydney. He was also in Corrugation Road in 1996, another musical by Jimmy Chi.
He helped write a play called The Career Highlights of the MAMU in 2002. This play showed the effects of the British nuclear testing on the Indigenous Australians living in the Maralinga, South Australia area. These tests happened between 1956 and 1963. The play was performed in Australia and even in Germany.
Trevor also helped create Ngapartji Ngapartji. This project started in 2005 to help keep Aboriginal languages alive. It grew into a stage show where Trevor shared his family's story. The show was performed at the Sydney Opera House and toured Australia for many years.
In 2012 and 2013, Trevor played the famous artist Albert Namatjira in a play called Namatjira. This play also came from a community project. It was seen by over 48,000 people in Australia and even went to London. The play won an award for being the Best Regional Touring Production in 2012.
In 2013, Trevor played Fingerbone Bill in a stage version of Storm Boy. This play was based on the 1964 book by Colin Thiele.
He also performed in Dirtsong in 2014 with the Black Arm Band theatre company. This musical show featured songs with lyrics by writer Alexis Wright, some sung in Aboriginal languages.
In 2016, Trevor took part in a dance show called Kaya, which means "hello". He danced with Indian, Aboriginal, and Maori dancers. The show toured Western Australia.
In 2022, Trevor played Dugald in the opera Voss in Adelaide. He also helped arrange the music for the 2017 production of The Secret River, which was a very popular show.
Film and Television Roles
In 2009, Trevor was featured in an episode of Message Stick on ABC Television. The episode, called "Spinifex Man", was about his life and work.
Trevor played Fingerbone Bill in the 2019 movie Storm Boy. He loved the original 1976 film and looked up to David Gulpilil, who played Fingerbone Bill before him. Playing this character in both the stage show and the movie was a dream come true for Trevor. He worked with an elder and a linguist to make sure the cultural details and language were correct in the film.
