Zsa Zsa Gabor (born Sári Gábor; February 6, 1917 – December 18, 2016) was a famous Hungarian-American actress and socialite. A socialite is someone well-known in fashionable society. She was known for her charming personality and glamorous style.

Zsa Zsa Gabor began her acting career in Vienna in 1934. She moved from Hungary to the United States in 1941. She quickly became a popular actress, known for her "European flair." Her first movie role was in Lovely to Look At (1952). She also starred in We're Not Married! (1952) and had a main role in Moulin Rouge (1952).

Outside of movies, Zsa Zsa Gabor was famous for her exciting Hollywood life. She was a well-known personality who always seemed to have a sparkle about her.

Early Life and Family

Zsa Zsa Gabor was born Sári Gábor on February 6, 1917, in Budapest, Hungary. At that time, Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She was the middle child of three daughters. Her father was Vilmos, a soldier, and her mother was Jolie Gabor. Her family had Jewish roots. Zsa Zsa left Hungary in 1941, before the Nazi occupation.

Zsa Zsa's older sister, Magda, became a socialite in America. Her younger sister, Eva, became a well-known American actress and businesswoman. The Gabor sisters were also cousins with Annette Lantos, whose husband was a US Congressman.

Acting Career

In January 1933, Zsa Zsa Gabor competed in the Miss Hungary pageant. She placed as the second runner-up. Her first time on stage was in August 1934, when she sang in an operetta called Der singende Traum in Vienna.

In 1944, she helped write a novel called Every Man For Himself. She said the story was partly based on her own life.

Zsa Zsa Gabor acted in several serious films. These include Moulin Rouge, Lovely to Look At, and We're Not Married!, all from 1952. She also appeared in Lili (1953). Later, she was in movies like Touch of Evil (1958) and the unique film Queen of Outer Space (1958). She also had small appearances in movies such as A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) and The Beverly Hillbillies (1993). She even voiced a character in the animated movie Happily Ever After (1990).

Zsa Zsa Gabor was a frequent guest on many television shows. She appeared with famous hosts like Milton Berle, Johnny Carson, and Joan Rivers. She was also a guest on popular shows like Hollywood Squares and Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. In 1968, she played the villain Minerva on two episodes of the TV series Batman.

Zsa Zsa Gabor was married nine times during her life. She was divorced seven times, and one marriage was canceled. Her last marriage lasted until her death.

In 1970, Zsa Zsa Gabor bought a large home in Bel Air. It was a beautiful house with a unique French-style roof.

Zsa Zsa Gabor had one child, a daughter named Constance Francesca Hilton, born in 1947. Francesca was the only one of the Gabor sisters to have a child. Francesca Hilton passed away in 2015 at age 67.

Even though her parents were Jewish, Zsa Zsa Gabor practiced the Catholic faith.

Later Life and Health

In 2002, Zsa Zsa Gabor was in a car accident that left her partly paralyzed. She needed a wheelchair to move around. She also had strokes in 2005 and 2007 and had several surgeries. In 2010, she broke her hip and had a successful hip replacement.

She was hospitalized again in 2011 for various health issues. In 2016, shortly after her 99th birthday, she was rushed to the hospital due to breathing problems.

Her husband, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, had plans to move with her back to Hungary in 2017. This was because Zsa Zsa wished to spend her final years in her home country.

Death and Burial

Zsa Zsa Gabor passed away from a heart attack on December 18, 2016, at the age of 99. She died at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Her funeral was held on December 30 in a Catholic ceremony in Beverly Hills. Her ashes were first buried in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery. In 2021, her husband moved her ashes to the Kerepesi Cemetery in Budapest. This was done to fulfill her wish to return to Hungary. He even said her remains traveled in their own first-class airline seat!
