Coweta County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. It's part of the larger Atlanta area. In 2020, about 146,158 people lived here. The main town, or county seat, is Newnan.

History of Coweta County
The land that became Coweta County was once home to the Creek people. They gave up this land in a special agreement called the Treaty of Indian Springs in 1825.
The state of Georgia then created the county boundaries on June 9, 1826. The county was officially named on December 14, 1826. Coweta County got its name from the Koweta Indians, who were a group of the Creek people. They had many towns in and around this area.
Geography of Coweta County
Coweta County covers a total area of about 446 square miles. Most of this is land (441 square miles), and a small part (about 4.9 square miles) is water.
The eastern part of the county is in the Upper Flint River area. The western part is in the Middle Chattahoochee River area. Both of these rivers are part of a larger river system called the ACF River Basin.
