Jennifer Dahlgren Fitzner (born April 21, 1984) is a retired Argentine athlete. She was a professional hammer thrower. Jennifer spent a lot of her life in the United States. There, she competed for the University of Georgia.

She set a new record for college hammer throwers in the U.S. She also won the NCAA Outdoor champion title twice. This happened in 2006 and 2007. Jennifer won three gold medals at the South American Championships. She also earned a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games.

Jennifer represented Argentina in the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. She also competed three times at the World Championships in Athletics. In 2004, she broke the South American record in hammer throw. She kept improving it to 73.74 meters. She is one of the best hammer throwers from South America. In 2010, she received the Konex Award Merit Diploma. This award recognized her as one of Argentina's top five athletes from the past decade.

Jennifer Dahlgren's Sports Journey

Jennifer Dahlgren's first big competition was the 2000 World Junior Championships in Athletics. She did not reach the final round. She finished 11th in the qualifying stage. In 2001, she placed fourth at the World Youth Championships. However, she won the South American Junior Championships. She also took second place at the Pan American Junior Championships that year.

The next year, Jennifer finished fifth at the World Junior Championships in Athletics. She won first place again at the 2002 South American Junior Championships in Athletics. The year 2003 was a very successful one for her. She set a new South American junior record in hammer throw. She also won at the Pan American Junior Championships.

Breaking Records and Winning Titles

In 2004, Jennifer reached the podium three times. She finished third at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. She set a South American record of 66.12 meters. She won gold at the South American U23 Championships in Athletics. She also earned a bronze medal at the 2004 Ibero-American Championships.

However, she did not perform as well at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Her throw was only 59.52 meters. In 2005, she improved her record to 67.07 meters. She also did better at the NCAA Championships, finishing second. She set a championship record of 65.05 meters. This win at the 2005 South American Championships in Athletics was her first major senior title.

In 2006, she won the NCAA Indoor Weight throw title. She set a new U.S. collegiate record in hammer throw. Her throw was 71.78 meters at the SEC Championships. This was the fourth time she had improved her South American record that year. A few months later, she won her first outdoor NCAA hammer throw title. Jennifer improved her championship record to 69.07 meters. This earned her a second gold medal at the 2006 South American Championships in Athletics. She also won at the 2006 South American Games.

Pan American and Olympic Challenges

Jennifer started 2007 by winning the NCAA championships. Her throw was 70.72 meters. This was her last amateur title. Soon after, she threw a new South American record of 72.01 meters in Greensboro, North Carolina. She won her first major championship medal at the 2007 Pan American Games. She took the bronze medal with a throw of 68.37 meters.

At the 2007 World Championships in Athletics, she threw 65.64 meters. This was not enough to reach the final. In 2008, she had a foot injury. This affected her performance early in the season. She recovered enough for the 2008 Ibero-American Championships. There, she won the silver medal. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, her best throw was 66.35 meters. She was the best South American performer but finished 29th overall.

In 2010, Jennifer started working with Marcelo Pugliese. He was also an Olympic hammer thrower from Argentina. At the beginning of the 2010 season, Jennifer set another personal best. She threw 73.74 meters in Buenos Aires.

Jennifer's Life Outside Sports

Jennifer Dahlgren's family moved often when she was young. This meant she spent a lot of time living in the United States. When she was 13, she moved back to Argentina. It took her some time to get used to the language and her new school. However, after she settled in, her family moved again to Texas.

Her Family's Sports Connection

Jennifer's mother, Irene Fitzner, was also an athlete. She competed for Argentina as a sprinter at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Jennifer's younger brother, Paul, went to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Jennifer's great-grandfather was Swedish. This is why she has a Swedish surname. Jennifer got married on May 11, 2024, in Houston, Texas.
