Kenya first joined the Olympic Games in 1956. Since then, Kenyan athletes have competed in almost every Summer Olympic Games. They missed the Games in 1976 and 1980.

Kenya has also taken part in the Winter Olympic Games. This happened in 1998, 2002, 2006, and 2018.

Kenyan athletes have won a total of 124 medals. All these medals came from two sports: boxing and track and field events. This makes Kenya the most successful African country at the Olympics.

The most recent Summer Olympics (2008, 2012, and 2016) were very successful for Kenya. They won 42 medals during these three Games. More and more Kenyan women are winning Olympic medals too. In 2016, women won more than half of Kenya's medals.

Sometimes, athletes born in Kenya choose to compete for other countries. For example, about 20 such athletes competed for other nations in the 2016 Olympics. Some of them even won medals.

The organization that helps Kenyan athletes go to the Olympics is the National Olympic Committee Kenya. It was started in 1955.
