Lancy is a town, also called a municipality, in the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. It's a lively place with a rich history and a growing population.

History of Lancy
Lancy was first mentioned way back in the year 1097. At that time, it was known as Lanciaco.
Geography of Lancy
Lancy covers an area of about 4.77 square kilometers (1.84 square miles). Imagine an area roughly the size of 700 football fields!
A small part of this land, about 5.2%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 6.5% of the area. Most of Lancy, about 89.3%, is developed with buildings and roads. A tiny part, 0.4%, is made up of rivers.
In the built-up areas, about 8.2% are industrial buildings. Homes and other buildings make up 45.7%. Roads and other transport areas cover 26.4%. Parks and sports fields take up 6.3% of the land.
Lancy is located on the left side of the Rhone river. It includes two main villages, Grand-Lancy and Petit-Lancy. These two villages are separated by the Aire valley. There are also smaller areas called hamlets like Pesay and Saint-Georges.

Lancy has a population of over 34,000 people. In 2008, about 35% of the people living in Lancy were foreign nationals. Between 1999 and 2009, the population grew by 12%. This growth was due to people moving in and more births than deaths.
