List of tallest buildings in Alberta facts for kids
This is a list of the tallest buildings in Alberta, Canada. It shows the height of skyscrapers and other tall buildings in the province. Most of these super tall buildings are in Calgary and Edmonton. Both cities have buildings taller than 100 meters (about 328 feet). The tallest building outside these two cities is the T. Russell Haig Tower in Lethbridge, which is 54.1 meters (about 177 feet) tall.
The tallest building in Alberta is the Stantec Tower in Edmonton. It has 66 floors and stands 250.8 meters (about 823 feet) tall.
Alberta's history of tall buildings began a long time ago. The Grain Exchange Building (1910) in Calgary and the Tegler Building (1911) in Edmonton were some of the first skyscrapers.
For many years, there was a rule about how tall buildings could be in Edmonton. This was because of the Edmonton City Centre Airport. Buildings could not be taller than 815.34 meters (about 2,675 feet) above sea level. This meant they could only be about 150 meters (about 492 feet) above downtown. This rule changed in late 2013 when the airport closed.
Alberta's Tallest Buildings
This list shows buildings in Alberta that are at least 100 meters (about 328 feet) tall. We measure their height based on rules from the CTBUH. This includes pointy tops and other parts of the building's design, but not antennas. If two or more buildings have the same height, they share the same rank.
Some tall structures, like the Calgary Tower, are not buildings where people live or work. They are observation or telecommunication towers. We include them for comparison, but they don't get a rank on this list.
