Old Police Stations and Courthouses
The Bronx has some very old buildings that were once used for law and order.
48th Police Precinct Station
This police station is located at 1925 Bathgate Avenue in Tremont. It was added to the list in 1983. It's a reminder of how police stations looked a long time ago.
52nd Police Precinct Station House and Stable
Found at 3016 Webster Avenue in Norwood, this building also includes a stable. It was listed in 1982, showing how police used horses for transport back then.
Bronx Borough Courthouse
This grand building is at E. 161st Street, 3rd and Brook Avenues in Melrose. It became a historic place in 1982. It's a beautiful example of old government buildings.
Bronx County Courthouse
Located at 851 Grand Concourse in Concourse, this courthouse was added to the list in 1983. It's another important building where legal matters were handled.
Special Homes and Mansions
Many old houses in the Bronx tell stories of the past.
Bartow-Pell Mansion and Carriage House
This beautiful mansion is in Pelham Bay Park on Shore Road. It was listed in 1974 and is also a National Historic Landmark. It's a great example of old country estates.
Robert Colgate House
You can find this house at 5225 Sycamore Avenue in Hudson Hill. It was added to the list in 1983. It shows the style of homes built in the area long ago.
William E. Dodge House
This house, at 690 W. 247th Street in Riverdale, became a historic site in 1977. It's another example of the grand homes from the past.
Fonthill Castle
This unique building is part of the College of Mount St. Vincent at W. 261st Street and Riverdale Avenue. It was listed in 1980 and looks like a real castle!
House at 175 Belden Street
This house is at 175 Belden Street on City Island. It was added to the list in 1982, showing the charm of City Island's older homes.
Poe Cottage
Found at 2640 Grand Concourse in Fordham, this small cottage was home to the famous writer Edgar Allan Poe. It was listed in 1980 and is a very special place for literature fans.
Valentine-Varian House
This house at 3266 Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood was listed in 1978. It's one of the oldest houses in the Bronx.
Frederick Van Cortlandt House
Located in Van Cortlandt Park at 242nd Street, this house is a National Historic Landmark and was listed in 1967. It's a museum today, showing life in the 18th century.
Wave Hill
This beautiful estate at 675 W. 252nd Street in Riverdale was listed in 1983. It has stunning gardens and views of the Hudson River.
Churches and Synagogues
The Bronx has many historic places of worship.
Chevra Linas Hazedek Synagogue
This synagogue at 1115 Ward Avenue in Soundview was listed in 2014. It's one of the last remaining synagogues from the early Jewish community in the area.
Christ Church Complex
Located at 5030 Riverdale Avenue in Riverdale, this church complex was added in 1983. It's a beautiful example of religious architecture.
Edgehill Church at Spuyten Duyvil
This church at 2550 Independence Avenue in Spuyten Duyvil was listed in 1982. It's a historic landmark in its neighborhood.
Grace Episcopal Church
On City Island at 116 City Island Avenue, this church was listed in 2006. It's a charming church important to the island's history.
Lisanti Chapel
This small chapel at 740 E. 215th Street in Baychester was listed in 2002. It's a unique and quiet historic spot.
Riverdale Presbyterian Church Complex
Found at 4761-4765 Henry Hudson Parkway in Riverdale, this church complex was listed in 1982.
St. Ann's Church Complex
This church at 295 St. Ann's Avenue in Mott Haven was listed in 1980. It's a very old and important church in the Bronx.
St. Anselm's Roman Catholic Church and School
Located at 683 Tinton Avenue in Mott Haven, this church and school complex was added in 2014.
St. James' Episcopal Church and Parish House
This church at 2500 Jerome Avenue in Fordham was listed in 1982.
St. Peter's Church, Chapel and Cemetery Complex
At 2500 Westchester Avenue in Westchester Square, this complex was listed in 1983. It includes a church, chapel, and cemetery.
St. Stephen's Methodist Church
This church at 146 W. 228th Street in Marble Hill, Manhattan (which is part of the Bronx County) was listed in 2012.
Tremont Baptist Church
Located at 324 E. Tremont Avenue in Tremont, this church was listed in 2009.

Bronx Central Annex-U.S. Post Office
This post office at 558 Grand Concourse in Mott Haven was listed in 1980. It's a grand building that shows the importance of mail services long ago.
Casa Amadeo, antigua Casa Hernandez
At 786 Prospect Avenue in Longwood, this building was listed in 2001. It's known for its importance in Latin music history.
Dollar Savings Bank
This impressive bank building at 2792 3rd Avenue in The Hub was listed in 2011. It has a very grand design.
Hertlein and Schlatter Silk Trimmings Factory
This old factory at 454-464 E. 148th Street in Mott Haven was listed in 2001. It reminds us of the Bronx's industrial past.
New York, Westchester and Boston Railroad Administration Building
Located at 481 Morris Park Avenue in Van Nest, this building was listed in 1980. It was once the main office for an important railroad.
Park Plaza Apartments
These apartments at 1005 Jerome Avenue in Concourse were listed in 1982. They are a great example of apartment living from that era.
Public School 11
This school at 1257 Ogden Avenue in Highbridge was listed in 1983. Many generations of students have learned here.
Public School 15
At 4010 Dyre Avenue in Eastchester, this school was listed in 1981.
Public School 17
This school at 190 Fordham Street on City Island was listed in 1984. It's now the City Island Nautical Museum.
C. Rieger's Sons Factory
Another old factory, this one at 450-452 E. 148th Street in Mott Haven, was listed in 2004.
Saxe Embroidery Company Building
This factory at 511-513 E 164th Street in Morrisania was listed in 2018. It's the only factory in the Bronx designed by an architect for textile making.
United States Post Office-Morrisania
This post office at 442 E. 167th Street in Morrisania was listed in 1988.
V. Santini, Inc. Warehouse
This warehouse at 2314-2316 Jerome Avenue in Fordham was listed in 2020.

Subway Stations
Many of the Bronx's subway stations are historic!
242nd Street – Van Cortlandt Park Station (IRT)
This subway station is above Broadway at W. 242nd Street in Riverdale. It was listed in 2005. It's the only old elevated subway station left in the Victorian Gothic style.
Jackson Avenue Subway Station (IRT)
At the junction of E. 152nd Street and Jackson and Westchester Avenues in Melrose, this station was listed in 2004.
Morris Park Station
This subway station is under Esplanade at Bogart and Colden Avenues in Morris Park. It was listed in 2005.
Mott Avenue Control House
This control house for the subway is at 149th Street and Grand Concourse in Mott Haven. It was listed in 1980.
Pelham Parkway Station (Dual System IRT)
At the junction of White Plains Road and Pelham Parkway in Pelham Parkway, this station was listed in 2005.
Prospect Avenue Subway Station (IRT)
This station is at the junction of Westchester and Longwood Avenues and Prospect Street, between Melrose and Longwood. It was listed in 2004.
Simpson Street Subway Station and Substation #18 (IRT)
Located at the junction of Westchester Avenue, between Simpson Street and Southern Boulevard in Longwood, this station and substation were listed in 2004.
Westchester Square Station (Dual System IRT)
This station is above Westchester Avenue, from Overing Street to Ferris Place in Westchester Square. It was listed in 2005.
Woodlawn Station (Dual System IRT)
At the junction of Bainbridge Avenue and Jerome Avenue, near Woodlawn, this station was listed in 2005. It has a special Arts and Crafts design.

Concourse Yard Entry Buildings
These buildings are at W. 205th Street, between Jerome and Paul Avenues in Jerome Park. They were listed in 2006.
Concourse Yard Substation
This substation at 3119 Jerome Avenue in Jerome Park was listed in 2006.
Hunts Point Rail Station
Located at 904-918 Hunts Point Avenue in Hunts Point, this old rail station was listed in 2022.
Port Morris Ferry Bridges
These bridges at 106 Locust Avenue in Port Morris were listed in 2014. They are a reminder of old ferry routes.
Washington Bridge
This bridge connects Harlem to the Bronx, between Amsterdam and Undercliff Avenues in Morris Heights. It was listed in 1983.
Parks and Green Spaces
Gardens and Mills
Lorillard Snuff Mill
This mill is located in the Bronx Botanical Garden in Bronx Park. It was listed in 1977 and is a National Historic Landmark. It's a very old industrial building.
New York Botanical Garden
The entire New York Botanical Garden at Southern and Bedford Park Boulevards in Bronx Park is a National Historic Landmark and was listed in 1967. It's a huge, beautiful garden with many different plants.
Parks and Recreation Areas
Crotona Play Center
This play center at 1700 Fulton Avenue in Crotona Park was listed in 2015. It's the only swimming pool complex in the Bronx built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA).
Jerome Park Reservoir
This large reservoir at Goulden, Reservoir and Sedgwick Avenues in Jerome Park was listed in 2000. It's an important part of the city's water system.
Williamsbridge Oval Park
This park at Reservoir Oval E. & W. in Norwood was listed in 2015. It was built on an old reservoir site and has a beautiful design.

Armories and Cemeteries
Eighth Regiment Armory
Also known as Kingsbridge Armory, this huge building at 29 W. Kingsbridge Road in Jerome Park was listed in 1982. It's believed to be the world's largest armory!
Admiral David Glasgow Farragut Gravesite
This gravesite is in Woodlawn Cemetery in Woodlawn. It was listed in 2012 and honors a famous admiral.
Woodlawn Cemetery
The entire Woodlawn Cemetery at Webster Avenue & East 233rd Street in Woodlawn is a National Historic Landmark and was listed in 2011. Many famous people are buried here.
Monuments and Towers
Hall of Fame Complex
This complex is on the Bronx Community College campus in University Heights. It was listed in 1979 and honors many great Americans.
Rainey Memorial Gates
These gates are at the New York Zoological Park in Bronx Park. They were listed in 1972 and are beautiful works of art.
Riverdale–Spuyten Duyvil–Kingsbridge Memorial Bell Tower
This bell tower is at Riverdale Avenue at W. 239th Street and Henry Hudson Parkway in Riverdale. It was listed in 2012.
Historic Districts
Some areas are special because of many historic buildings together.
Fort Independence Historic District
This district includes Cannon Place, Orloff and Sedgwick Avenues, and Giles Place in Kingsbridge. It was listed in 2016 and has a unique street plan designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.
Fort Schuyler
Located at Throggs Neck at East River and Long Island Sound, this fort was listed in 1976.
Grand Concourse Historic District
This district covers parts of Grand Concourse in Concourse. It was listed in 1987 and is known for its grand buildings and wide avenue.
Longwood Historic District
This area is roughly bounded by Beck Street, Longwood, Leggett, and Prospect Avenues in Longwood. It was listed in 1983.
Morris High School Historic District
This district is roughly bounded by Boston Road, Jackson and Forrest Avenues, and E. 166th and Home Streets in Morrisania. It was listed in 1983.
Mott Haven Historic District
This district follows an irregular pattern along Alexander Avenue and E. 140th Street in Mott Haven. It was listed in 1980.
United Workers Cooperatives
These buildings at 2700-2870 Bronx Park East in Bronx Park were listed in 1986 and are a National Historic Landmark. They are important for their history as worker cooperatives.
University Heights Campus (Bronx Community College of The City University of New York)
The campus of Bronx Community College at West 181st Street and University Avenue in University Heights was listed in 2012 and is a National Historic Landmark.
