The Tramlines Festival is a yearly music festival in Sheffield, UK. It started out free, but now you need tickets to go. The festival features both famous national artists and talented local musicians. Local music experts and volunteers helped plan and organize the festival. Its name comes from Sheffield's tram network.
The first Tramlines Festival in 2009 was a big hit, bringing in 35,000 fans. The 2010 event saw even more people attend. Because of its success, Tramlines Festival won 'Best Metropolitan Festival' at the UK Festival Awards in 2011. Today, a company called Superstruct Entertainment owns the festival.

Festival Locations
In the past, Tramlines Festival took place at over 70 different spots and four main stages in the city center. These included places like Devonshire Green, The Leadmill, and the Peace Gardens. The main stage at Ponderosa Park could hold 8,000 people.
In 2018, the festival moved out of the city center to a new, larger location: Hillsborough Park in Sheffield. This new spot has four stages, including a main stage. It allows for a much bigger crowd, with space for around 40,000 people. For the 2019 event, the capacity was set at 30,000.
Past Festivals
2009 Festival
The very first Tramlines Festival happened in 2009. Famous artists like Rolo Tomassi, Just Jack, Pixie Lott, and Reverend and The Makers performed. The festival was a huge success, attracting 35,000 fans. Everyone, from the organizers to the people of Sheffield, loved it.
Because it was so popular, the festival was announced again for 2010. Back then, festival-goers had to wait in line to get wristbands. These wristbands gave them access to the different stages. The 2009 festival also recycled a lot of paper, plastic, and aluminum. This led to a bigger focus on being eco-friendly in 2010.
2010 Festival
Tramlines Festival 2010 took place from July 23rd to 25th. About 250 artists performed, and more venues were added. These included Sheffield University's Octagon Centre and Winter Gardens. The main stage at Devonshire Green grew to hold 8,000 people.
Headliners included Echo and the Bunnymen, Mystery Jets, Professor Green, and Craig David. The festival was still free, and they got rid of the wristband system. Instead, it was "first-come, first-served" at the entrances. This year, 65,000 people attended. New events in 2010 included a Youth Music Festival and a Blues trail. The festival also worked hard to reduce its environmental impact. This included a solar-powered headphone disco.
