Veronica Campbell Brown (born 15 May 1982) is a retired Jamaican track and field sprinter. She was known for her speed in the 100-meter and 200-meter races.

Veronica has won eight Olympic medals. She is one of only three women in history to win the Olympic 200-meter event twice in a row. She also holds the amazing record of being one of only eleven athletes to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior levels in athletics.

Her fastest times are 10.76 seconds for the 100 meters and 21.74 seconds for the 200 meters. She won gold in the 100 meters at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and in the 200 meters at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. She also earned seven silver medals and one bronze medal at the World Championships in Athletics. In indoor races, she won the 60-meter title twice at the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

Early Life and School

Veronica Campbell was born on May 15, 1982, in Clarks Town, Trelawny, Jamaica. Her parents are Cecil Campbell and Pamela Bailey. She has five brothers and four sisters.

She went to Troy Primary and Vere Technical High School in Clarendon. After high school, she moved to the United States to study at the University of Arkansas.

Junior Athletics Career

In 1999, Veronica won two gold medals at the first-ever IAAF World Youth Championships. She won the 100-meter race and the 4 x 100-meter relay.

The next year, she made history by being the first female athlete to win both sprint races at the IAAF World Junior Championships. She won the 100 meters in 11.12 seconds, setting a new championship record. She also won the 200 meters in 22.87 seconds.

At the 2000 Summer Olympics, she helped her team win a silver medal in the 4 x 100-meter relay. In 2001, she was named the most outstanding athlete at the 2001 CARIFTA Games. That year, she won three gold medals in the junior category: 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4 × 100 meters relay.

College Athletics Career

Veronica went to Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. There, she set many records and won several titles. She won four national junior college titles in the 60, 100, and 200 meters, both indoors and outdoors.

She still holds the college records for the outdoor 100-meter and 200-meter races. Veronica was also a great student, earning an associate degree with a high grade average. She later attended the University of Arkansas, where she became a top sprint star.

Professional Athletics Career

Veronica Campbell-Brown won her first Olympic medal when she was just 18 years old. This was at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. She was part of the 4 x 100-meter relay team that won a silver medal.

Olympic Glory in Athens (2004)

At 22, Veronica represented Jamaica at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. She competed in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races. In the 100-meter final, she won a bronze medal.

Later, she competed in the 200-meter final. She ran an amazing race, winning the gold medal. This made her the first Jamaican and Caribbean woman to win an Olympic sprint title. She was very emotional as her national anthem played.

Veronica then joined her teammates to win the women's 4 × 100-meter relay. This was another historic moment, as it was Jamaica's first time winning this relay at the Olympics.

World Championships Success

In August 2005, Veronica won a silver medal in the 100 meters at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. She also won another silver medal in the 4 x 100-meter relay with her team.

At the 2007 World Championships in Athletics, Veronica won three more medals. She took gold in the 100 meters, silver in the 200 meters, and silver in the 4 x 100-meter relay.

Defending Olympic Title (2008)

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, Veronica Campbell-Brown had the honor of carrying the Jamaican flag. She successfully defended her Olympic 200-meter title, setting a new personal best time of 21.74 seconds.

She also competed in the 4 x 100-meter relay. Unfortunately, her team did not finish the race due to a mistake during the baton exchange.

More World Championships and Indoor Success

In 2009, at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, Veronica finished fourth in the 100-meter final. She then won her second World 200-meter silver medal.

In 2010, she won her first World Indoor 60-meter gold medal. She also ran her fastest 200-meter race of the year in New York.

In 2011, Veronica won both the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Jamaican trials. At the World Championships in Daegu, she won a silver medal in the 100 meters. She then won her first 200-meter world title.

In 2012, she successfully defended her 60-meter World Indoor gold medal. Later that year, at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she won a bronze medal in the 100 meters. In the 4 × 100-meter relay final, she and her Jamaican team won a silver medal.

In 2015, at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, China, she finished fourth in the 100 meters. She won a bronze medal in the 200 meters and helped her team secure a gold medal in the 4 × 100-meter relay.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Veronica competed in the 200 meters and the 4 × 100-meter relay. She won a silver medal as part of the Jamaican relay team.

Personal Life

In 2007, Veronica married Omar Brown, who is also a Jamaican sprinter. She then changed her name to Campbell-Brown. They live and train in Clermont, Florida.

In 2009, she became a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. She said she would use this role to help promote fairness for girls and women in sports.

Achievements and Records

Veronica Campbell-Brown's personal best time of 10.76 seconds in the 100 meters makes her one of the fastest women in history. Her 200-meter best time of 21.74 seconds also places her among the top sprinters ever.

She has won a total of 46 medals in her career: 27 gold, 16 silver, and 3 bronze.
