Club History: From Dynamo to Akhmat
The club started way back in 1946 as Dynamo. Over the years, its name changed a few times. In 1948, it became Neftyanik, and then in 1958, it was renamed Terek. Finally, in 2017, the club changed its name to Akhmat, honoring Akhmat Kadyrov, a former leader of the Chechen Republic.
During the 1990s, the club faced tough times. Because of a conflict in Chechnya, the team had to stop playing for a while. For many years, from the 1990s until 2007, they played their home games in a nearby city called Pyatigorsk. But by 2008, the team was able to play matches back in Grozny!
Akhmat Grozny has had some great moments. They won the Russian Cup in 2004, which was a huge achievement! They also won the Russian First Division in the same year. Winning the Russian Cup allowed them to play in the UEFA Cup (now called the Europa League). They beat a Polish team, Lech Poznań, but then lost to a Swiss team, FC Basel. After being relegated in 2005, they worked hard and were promoted back to the Premier League in 2007.
In 2011, a famous Dutch football legend, Ruud Gullit, became the club's manager for a short time. Many different coaches have led the team over the years, including Sergei Tashuyev, who is the current head coach.
