John Paul Alessio (born July 5, 1979) is a Canadian retired professional mixed martial artist. He used to compete in the Lightweight division for Bellator. John Alessio started his professional fighting career in 1998.
He also fought for other big organizations like the UFC, WEC, and PRIDE. Alessio was a champion in King of the Cage, holding both the Welterweight and Superfight titles.

John Alessio's Early Life and Training
John Alessio grew up in Duncan, British Columbia, Canada. This is where he first started learning martial arts. He trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and kickboxing.
When he was 19, he moved to San Jose, California. He wanted to become a professional fighter. Besides fighting, John Alessio also won two national championships in BMX trick biking.
John Alessio's Mixed Martial Arts Career
John Alessio had a long career in mixed martial arts. He fought in many different promotions.
Fighting in the UFC for the First Time
John Alessio made his first appearance in the UFC when he was only 20 years old. This was at UFC 26 on June 9, 2000. He faced Pat Miletich in this fight. Alessio lost the match in the second round by an armbar submission.
Ultimate Glory Fights
Alessio fought Sergey Golyaev at Ultimate Glory 12. This event took place on October 16, 2010. He won this fight in the second round using a kimura submission.
After that, Alessio competed against Siyar Bahadurzada. This was in the welterweight semifinals of United Glory. The fight happened on January 30, 2011, in Charleroi, Belgium. Alessio was defeated by TKO in the first round.
Returning to the UFC
On April 3, 2012, it was announced that Alessio would return to the UFC. He stepped in to replace an injured fighter at UFC 145. He fought Mark Bocek at this event. Alessio lost the fight by a unanimous decision from the judges.
Alessio then faced Shane Roller on July 7, 2012, at UFC 148. He lost this fight also by unanimous decision. After these two losses, John Alessio was released from the UFC.
Fighting for Bellator MMA
John Alessio later signed with Bellator MMA. He was set to join their Lightweight tournament.
He was supposed to fight Guillaume De Lorenzi at Bellator 119 on May 9, 2014. However, De Lorenzi got injured. So, Alessio fought Eric Wisely instead. Alessio won this fight by a unanimous decision.
Alessio's last fight was against David Rickels at Bellator 139. This fight took place on June 26, 2015. The match ended in a "no contest" in the first round. This happened because Rickels accidentally hit Alessio with an illegal knee. Alessio was unable to continue fighting.
John Alessio's Personal Life
John Alessio married Noelani Timas on June 9, 2010. They got married in Las Vegas, Nevada. Noelani Timas is also known as Noelani Chase. John Alessio has one son from before this marriage.
