This is a list of fun characters from Dinosaur Train. It's a CGI animated TV show made by The Jim Henson Company for PBS Kids. The show started in 2009.

Main characters

  • Buddy (voiced by Phillip Corlett in Seasons 1-2, Sean Thomas in Season 3, Dayton Wall in Season 4, and Chance Hurstfield in Season 5) — Buddy is an orange male Tyrannosaurus. He was adopted by the Pteranodon family as an egg. Buddy is friendly and loves to ask questions. He also likes to form hypotheses (ideas to test). Since Buddy cannot fly, his family carries him when they need to fly. He has great eyesight, helping his family spot fish underwater.
  • Tiny (voiced by Claire Corlett) — Tiny is a female Pteranodon. She loves to rhyme words. Tiny is confident, like a news reporter, when she meets new dinosaurs. She is Buddy's best friend and adopted sister. Tiny is green, like her brother Don and her parents. She is the smallest of her family. She sometimes hides in small spaces she calls her "Tiny Place."
  • Don (voiced by Alexander Matthew Marr in Seasons 1-2 and Laura Marr in Season 3 onwards) — Don is a male Pteranodon. He often sings his special jingle, "La la LOO!" Don enjoys dancing, digging holes, and collecting cool objects for his nature collection. He is a bit rounder than Shiny and Tiny, with a larger chin like his grandfather.
  • Shiny (voiced by Erika-Shaye Gair) — Shiny is a female Pteranodon. She loves to roleplay with her siblings. Shiny is aqua green, different from her family's grass green color. She loves collecting shells and other shiny things. Shiny is often seen with Mr. Conductor's nephew, Gilbert Troodon. She is more shy than her siblings, especially with new or scary things.
  • Mr. Conductor (voiced by Ian James Corlett) — Mr. Conductor is a male Troodon who drives the Dinosaur Train. He is friendly, warm, and charming to everyone. He is a special friend to Buddy. Mr. Conductor is very wise about plants and animals. The Pteranodon family often asks him questions about dinosaurs.
  • Mrs. Pteranodon (voiced by Ellen Kennedy) — She is the mother of Tiny, Shiny, Don, and Buddy. Mrs. Pteranodon is a teacher and a great tour guide. Her first name is never said in the show. Her children introduce her as "Our Mom, 'Mom'." Other dinosaurs call her "Mrs. Pteranodon."
  • Mr. Pteranodon (voiced by Colin Murdock) — He is the father of Tiny, Shiny, Don, and Buddy. He is also Mrs. Pteranodon's husband. Mr. Pteranodon sees himself as the family's coach. He makes a squawking sound like a coach's whistle. He calls his family "Team Pteranodon." He enjoys fishing with Don and Shiny. Mr. Pteranodon is a bit afraid of new train technology. He gets airsick on the Dinosaur Train Zeppelin at first. He also worries about being stuck underground in the Dinosaur Drill Train.

These characters appear in more than one episode.

  • Tank Triceratops (voiced by Alexander Matthew Marr in Seasons 1-2 and Laura Marr in Season 3 onwards) — Tank is a young male blue Triceratops. He loves eating leaves. Tank is almost always hungry! He is a good friend to the Pteranodon kids. His family includes his mother, Trudy, and his herd. He also has a baby brother named Tuck.
  • Boris Tyrannosaurus, Dolores Tyrannosaurus and Annie Tyrannosaurus (voiced by Trevor Devall, Kathleen Barr and Erika Shaye-Gair) - They are a family of Tyrannosaurus. Annie is a friend of Buddy's. She is very energetic and likes to playfully tackle her friends. They were the first T. rex family Buddy met, helping him learn about his own species. They migrate (move) during the summer.
  • Ned Brachiosaurus (voiced by Kathleen Barr) — Ned is a young male Brachiosaurus. He is a regular on the train and is a Junior Conductor. His herd lives in the area visited in the "Dinosaur Poop!" episode.
  • Mrs. Conductor (A.K.A Tabitha Troodon) (voiced by Tabitha St. Germain) — She is Mr. Conductor's mother. She used to be the train's conductor. Even though she is older, she is very playful. She gets along well with the Pteranodon children. She often appears with a loud "Bw-AHHHH!"
  • Petey Peteinosaurus (voiced by Cedric Payne in Seasons 1-3 and Dominic Good in Season 5 onwards) — Petey is a male Peteinosaurus who eats insects. He is a close friend of Tiny. He joins the Pterosaur Flying club.
  • Derek Deinonychus (voiced by Gordon Grice) — Derek is a young male Deinonychus. Tiny Pteranodon and her family first met him in his own episode.
  • Jack Einiosaurus (voiced by Bill Mondy) — Jack is a green Einiosaurus. He seems to be a cousin of the Triceratops family.
  • Elliott Enantiornithine (voiced by Ian James Corlett and Colin Murdock) — Elliott is a blue and purple bird. He is friends with Buddy and his family.
  • Hank Ankylosaurus (voiced by Colin Murdock) — Hank is a male Ankylosaurus. He is a famous Dinoball player. Mr. Pteranodon and The Conductor are big fans of his.
  • Laura Giganotosaurus (voiced by Kathleen Barr) — Laura is a green female Giganotosaurus. She has an Argentine accent. She often rides in the Observation Car. Laura uses her large size to be a lookout and help turn the train around. She loves watching and drawing birds. She is best friends with Anna.
  • Pauline Proganochelys (voiced by Kathleen Barr) — Pauline is a sand-colored female Proganochelys (a prehistoric turtle). She is from Pangea during the Triassic period. She has strong armor, with spikes on her neck and a tough shell. She is a mother, but her babies can defend themselves.
  • Crystal Cryolophosaurus (voiced by Ashleigh Ball) — Crystal is a female Cryolophosaurus singer. She sings in a country music style. King falls in love with her, and she loves him too. She moves to the Jurassic Antarctic with him.
  • Henry Hermit Crab (voiced by Jason Michas) — Henry is a hermit crab. Shiny becomes friends with him at the Big Pond. He often needs a new shell as he grows. He speaks with an animated New Jersey accent.
  • Erma Eoraptor (voiced by Kathleen Barr) — Erma is a female Eoraptor. She lives at the start of the rail line. She speaks with a pioneer accent.
  • Iggy Iguanodon (voiced by Alan Marriott) — Iggy is an orange-marked blue Iguanodon. Buddy and his family met him on a world tour.
  • Gilbert (voiced by Ashleigh Ball) — Gilbert is a young male Troodon. He is the Conductor's nephew. He wears a small version of the Conductor's uniform. He gives energetic greetings when he enters a room.
  • Larry Lambeosaurus (voiced by Brian Drummond) — Larry is a male Lambeosaurus. He is the Pteranodons' neighbor. He has a wife, Lorraine, and kids, Leroy and Lily. Mr. Pteranodon finds him a bit annoying but is too kind to say so. Larry often eats leaves from Mr. Pteranodon's favorite tree.
  • Cindy Cimolestes (voiced by Tabitha St. Germain) — Cindy is a female Cimolestes. She used to live in Tiny's Tiny Place. Buddy helped her find a home up high. She is a good friend to Tiny and has a squeaky voice.
  • Elmer Elasmosaurus (voiced by Gordon Grice) — Elmer is a young male Elasmosaurus. He catches fish and plays underwater. In one episode, he visits a desert and learns it used to be an ocean.
  • Grandpa and Grandma Pteranodon (voiced by Colin Murdock and Ellen Kennedy) — They are Don, Tiny, Shiny, and Buddy's grandparents on their father's side. Grandma Pteranodon has aqua blue skin like Shiny. She can also squawk like a coach's whistle. Grandpa Pteranodon enjoys fishing and collecting. He looks like an older Don. They were away on a long fishing tour.
  • Kenny Kentrosaurus (voiced by Adam Behr) — Kenny is a purple Kentrosaurus with green plates and spikes. He has a Jamaican accent.
  • Thurston Troodon (voiced by Trevor Devall) — Thurston is a male Troodon. He is the conductor of the Rocket Train and later the captain of the Dinosaur Train Zeppelin. He is a rival to Mr. Conductor. They went to the same Conductor School. Thurston is proud and thinks his Rocket Train is better because it's faster.
  • Tricia Troodon (voiced by Diana Kaarina and Rebecca Shoichet) — Tricia is a female Troodon. She is the conductor of the solar train.
  • Mikey Microraptor — Mikey is a young male Microraptor. He can glide instead of fly. He is Tiny's sidekick and boyfriend.

Other characters

  • Paulie Pliosaurus (voiced by Alex Ferris) — Paulie is known as the T-Rex of the ocean. He becomes friends with Buddy, who is a land T-Rex. Paulie is the first to volunteer to go into the Aqua Car.
  • Rick Oryctodromeus (voiced by James Kirk) — Rick is a small friend. Buddy and his Pteranodon family meet him during sunset.
  • Vlad Volaticotherium (voiced by Adrian Petriw) — Vlad is a purple ancestor of the flying squirrel. He is from the Jurassic time period and has a Romanian accent.
  • Stella Sea Star (voiced by Tabitha St. Germain) — Stella is a pink starfish. She becomes friends with Henry Hermit Crab. She speaks with a shrill, nasally New Jersey accent.
  • Deon Dimetrodon (voiced by Alan Marriott) — Deon is the first Permian friend met by Buddy, Tiny, Mrs. Pteranodon, Mr. Conductor, and Erma Eoraptor.
  • Dennis Deinocheirus (voiced by William Ainscough) — Dennis is a Deinocheirus. He appeared in the episode "Junior Conductor's Academy." Like Buddy, he is smart and knows a lot about dinosaurs. Dennis shows some traits common among children on the autism spectrum.
  • Peggy Peteinosaurus — Peggy is Petey’s mother.
