Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The City of Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board helps protect special buildings and places in Seattle, Washington. These special spots are called city landmarks. They are important because they show us Seattle's history and unique character.

When a place becomes a landmark, it means the Seattle City Council has officially approved it. This helps make sure these historic buildings and areas are kept safe for everyone to enjoy for many years. As of September 7, 2021, Seattle has many amazing landmarks!

Historic Buildings

Many old buildings in Seattle have been saved because they are landmarks. They tell stories about how the city grew.

Homes and Apartments

  • Admiral's House: This grand house at 2001 W. Garfield Street was named a landmark in 2013.
  • Alexander Hall: Located at 315 West Bertona Street, this was the very first building built on the Seattle Pacific University campus. It became a landmark in 2014.
  • Anhalt Apartment Buildings: Several apartment buildings designed by Fred Anhalt are landmarks, like the ones at 1005 E. Roy Street and 1014 E. Roy Street. They were recognized in 1979 for their unique style.
  • Ankeny-Gowey House: This house at 912 2nd Avenue W. became a landmark in 2011.
  • Baroness Apartments: Found at 1005 Spring Street, these apartments were named a landmark in 2010.
  • Belroy Apartments: At 703 Bellevue Avenue E., these apartments became a landmark in 2012.
  • Bloss House: This house at 4055 SW Holgate St. was designated a landmark in 2020.
