List of peaks in the Yorkshire Dales facts for kids

This article lists the many hills and mountains in the Yorkshire Dales. To keep the list clear, it only includes hills that rise at least 30 meters (about 100 feet) from the land around them. This includes special types of hills called Marilyns and Hewitts.

Marilyns are hills in the British Isles that stand out a lot, rising at least 150 meters (about 492 feet) from their lowest point. Hewitts are hills in England, Ireland, and Wales that are taller than 610 meters (2000 feet) and also rise at least 30 meters from their surroundings. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is home to 22 Marilyns and 28 Hewitts.

The edges of the Yorkshire Dales area are naturally defined. They follow streams and low points that separate it from nearby regions like the Lake District and the North Pennines.

The hills in this list are grouped by their "parent Marilyn." Think of it like a family: a parent Marilyn is the main, tallest hill in a certain area. Other smaller hills nearby belong to its "territory." You can find a hill's parent Marilyn by looking at which Marilyn's area it falls into. In the tables below, the parent Marilyns are shown in bold.

In the tables, "H" means the total height of the hill above sea level. "RH" means its relative height, which is how much it rises from the lowest point connecting it to a higher peak.
