The Republic of Moldova first joined the Olympic Games as an independent country in 1994. Since then, Moldovan athletes have competed in every Olympic Games.

Before 1994, athletes from Moldova were part of the Soviet Union at the Olympics team from 1952 to 1988. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Moldova was part of the Unified Team in 1992.

Moldova has not won any medals at the Winter Olympic Games.

The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova was created in 1991. The International Olympic Committee officially recognized it in 1993.
