Nara (奈良市, Nara-shi) is a city in Japan on the island of Honshu. It is the capital city of Nara Prefecture.
It has been recognized as a core city since 2002.

History
Many of the temples, shrines and ruins in Nara form "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara". It is one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It includes

- Kōfuku-ji
- Kasuga taisha
- Gangō-ji
- Yakushi-ji
- Tōshōdai-ji
- Heijō Palace
The Kasugayama old-groth forest is also identified as a world heritage site.
Geography
The city is in the northern part of Nara Prefecture. It is on the border with Kyoto Prefecture.
