The Chad national football team, also known as Les Sao, represents the country of Chad in international football games. The team is managed by the Chadian Football Federation. Their home games are played at the Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno Olympic Stadium.
In April 2021, FIFA stopped the Chad national football team from playing in global football. This happened because the Chadian government got involved with the country's football federation.

Team History
The Chadian Football Federation was started in 1962. It joined FIFA and the CAF in 1988.
Chad's national football team did not play a big role in world football until the 1990s. Before that, they mostly played friendly matches and smaller cups with other African teams.
Their first match ever was in 1963 in the L'Amitié Tournament in Senegal. They lost 2–1 to Liberia. Soon after, they had a big loss of 6–2 to Dahomey (now Benin).
The Chad national football team has never made it to the Africa Cup of Nations or the World Cup. They first tried to qualify for the World Cup in 2000. They lost to Liberia in the first round.
In 2003, they tried again but were knocked out by Angola. They won their first home game 3–1 with Francis Oumar Belonga scoring three goals. However, they lost the away match 2–0.
For the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, they played in a group with Mali, Sudan, and Congo. They finished last in their group, with two wins and four losses.
In the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, Chad played against Tanzania. Tanzania won the first game 2–1. In the second game, Chad won 1–0. But Tanzania moved on because they scored more "away goals" (goals scored in the opponent's stadium). The total score was 2–2.
Chad played against Malawi in the qualifiers for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Chad won the first game 3–2. But they lost 2–0 in the second game, so Malawi won 4–3 overall.
In the qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, they played Malawi again. Chad lost the first game 2–0. They won the second game 3–1, but Malawi still moved on because of the away goals rule.
Chad's biggest success so far is winning the CEMAC Cup in 2014. They beat Congo 3–2 in the final. Their previous best was second place in 2005, when they lost to Cameroon.
Les Sao had a tough start in their qualifying games for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. They lost to Nigeria and Egypt. But then, coach Moudou Kouta led them to a surprise win against Sierra Leone in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup. Chad won 1–0 at home and moved to the next round on away goals, even after losing the second game 2–1. Chad also beat Egypt 1–0 at home in the second round.
In March 2016, the Chadian Football Federation said they were pulling out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers because of money problems. Because of this, they were not allowed to enter the next tournament. This meant they did not play any official games for over three years.
In September 2019, Chad lost to Sudan in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification. A month later, Les Sao beat Liberia in a penalty shootout to reach the group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
In March 2021, the Chadian government stopped the Chadian Football Federation from working. This led to FIFA banning Chad from global football in April 2021. This ban was because governments are not allowed to interfere with how a country's football team is run. Because of this, CAF also removed Chad from the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

When Chad became independent, the team wore blue shirts, blue shorts, and red socks. These colors are from the French flag. In the 1970s, Chad's home colors changed to blue, yellow, and red. Their first away kit in 1960 was a white shirt, red shorts, and white socks. In 1980, the away kit changed to a red shirt, blue shorts, and yellow socks.
