The Council of Jerusalem: A Big Meeting for Early Christians

This council decided that people who weren't Jewish but wanted to become Christians (called Gentile converts) did not have to follow all the strict rules of the Mosaic Law. These rules included special Jewish food laws and other traditions.

However, the council did say that new Christians should still avoid certain things. They were told not to eat blood or meat that still had blood in it. They also had to avoid anything connected to idolatry, which means worshipping false gods. These specific rules are sometimes called the Apostolic Decree.

You can read about this important meeting in the Acts of the Apostles, especially in chapter 15. Some parts of the Bible, like Paul's letter to the Galatians (chapter 2), might also talk about this council.
