This article is about the important women who were married to the rulers of Austria. These women held titles like Margravine, Duchess, Archduchess, and Empress. The system of having a monarch (a king or emperor) in Austria ended in 1918, after the First World War.
The different titles for these royal wives lasted for a very long time, from 976 all the way to 1918.

In 1156, Austria became a Duchy, a more important type of territory. The wives of the Dukes were called Duchesses.
