The governor of Goa is like the main representative of the President of India in the Indian state of Goa. Think of them as the President's eyes and ears in the state. The President chooses the governor for a five-year term. The current governor, P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, started his role on 7 July 2021.

What Does the Governor Do?
The governor has several important jobs and powers. These help them make sure the state runs smoothly and follows the rules.
Making Decisions and Laws
The governor has different types of powers:
- Executive powers: These are about managing the state. The governor helps with administration, choosing people for certain jobs, and removing them if needed.
- Legislative powers: These are about making laws. The governor plays a part in how laws are created and approved by the state's law-making body, like the Vidhan Sabha.
- Discretionary powers: These are special powers the governor can use on their own judgment, especially in tricky situations.
Other Important Roles
The governor also holds special positions because of their main role. This is called being ex officio (meaning "by virtue of office").
- The governor is the chancellor of Goa University. This means they oversee the university and use powers given to them by the Goa University Act of 1984.
- They are the ex officio president of the Indian Red Cross Society, Goa Branch. They can choose the chairman and other important members of this group.
- The governor leads the Goa State Environment Protection Council. This group gives advice to the government on protecting the environment. It includes government officials and groups that work on environmental issues. They meet regularly to talk about Goa's environment and nature.
- The governor is also the chairman of a special fund. This fund helps former soldiers and their families who need support.
Who Were the Governors Before?
Goa has a long history with different leaders. Before it became a state of India, it was ruled by Portugal.
Portuguese Governors General
The first Portuguese governor general was Francisco de Almeida, who started in 1505. The last one was Manuel Antonio Vassalo e Silva, who left office in 1961. Over the years, there were 163 Portuguese governors general in total.
Lieutenant Governors of Goa, Daman and Diu
For a while, Goa was a union territory of India, along with Daman and Diu. This was until 30 May 1987. During this time, it had a lieutenant governor instead of a full governor.
