The Governor of Maharashtra is like the main representative of the President of India in the state of Maharashtra. Think of them as the ceremonial head, meaning they have an important role in official events and duties.
The Constitution of India gives the governor certain powers. However, the real day-to-day decisions are made by the Council of Ministers, led by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Currently, C. P. Radhakrishnan is the Governor of Maharashtra. He started his role on July 31, 2024.

What Does the Governor Do?
The governor has several important jobs and responsibilities in Maharashtra. They formally appoint many key officials in the state government.
Appointing Officials
The governor officially chooses and appoints many people who work for the state. These include:
- The main lawyer for the state, called the advocate general of Bombay.
- Officials who look into complaints about corruption, known as the Lokayukta and Upa Lokayukta.
- The person in charge of state elections, the state election commissioner.
- The chairman and members of the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal, which handles government employee issues.
- The chairman and members of the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission, which protects people's rights.
- The chairman and members of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), which helps hire people for government jobs.
- The chairmen and members of three special development boards.
- The sheriff of Bombay, a ceremonial officer.
- The state chief information commissioner, who helps people get government information.
