Mountain peaks of Canada facts for kids
Canada is a huge country with many amazing mountains! This article will tell you about some of the most important mountain peaks in Canada. We'll look at how tall they are, how much they stand out from their surroundings, and how far away they are from other tall mountains.
Canada's Tallest Mountains
Canada has many super tall mountains! Out of the 100 highest mountains, five are taller than 5,000 meters (about 16,400 feet). Nineteen peaks are over 4,000 meters (about 13,100 feet), and 67 are over 3,000 meters (about 9,800 feet). All 100 of these peaks are at least 2,706 meters (about 8,878 feet) tall.
Most of these tall mountains are in British Columbia (61 of them) and Yukon (28). Some are also in Alberta (13) and one in the Northwest Territories. A few of these mountains are right on the border with Alaska or between Canadian provinces like British Columbia and Alberta.

Mountains That Stand Out
This section looks at mountains that really "stand out" from their surroundings. This is called topographic prominence. It means how high a mountain rises from the lowest point connecting it to a higher peak.
Out of the 50 most prominent mountains in Canada, only Mount Logan has a prominence over 4,000 meters (about 13,100 feet). Five peaks have a prominence over 3,000 meters (about 9,800 feet), and 41 peaks are over 2,000 meters (about 6,500 feet). All 50 of these mountains are considered "ultra-prominent summits," meaning they stand out a lot!
Most of these prominent peaks are in British Columbia (34 of them) and Yukon (9). Some are also in Nunavut (6) and Alberta (3).

Mountains Far From Others
This section talks about the most isolated mountains. This means how far a mountain is from any other mountain that is just as tall or taller. It's like finding the loneliest tall peak!
Out of the 50 most isolated mountains in Canada, 12 peaks are more than 500 kilometers (about 310 miles) away from another peak of similar height. Many are over 200 kilometers (about 124 miles) away. All 50 of these peaks are at least 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) away from another equally tall peak.
These isolated mountains are found all over Canada. British Columbia has 17 of them, Nunavut has 13, and Yukon has 7. You can also find them in Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, the Northwest Territories, Alberta, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
