The small country of San Marino first joined the Olympics in 1960. Since then, they have sent athletes to 15 Summer Olympics and 10 Winter Olympics.

San Marino has won three Olympic medals so far. Two of these medals were in shooting, and one was in wrestling. All three medals were won at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The most successful athlete for San Marino is Alessandra Perilli. She almost won a medal at the London 2012 Games, finishing fourth in the Women's Trap shooting event. At Tokyo 2020, Alessandra won two medals. First, she earned a bronze medal in the Women's Trap event. Just two days later, she won a silver medal with Gian Marco Berti in the Mixed Trap Team event.

With about 33,600 people, San Marino is the smallest country by population to have won an Olympic medal. This record was set at the Paris 2024 Games. Before San Marino, the smallest countries to win medals were Bermuda (for the Summer Olympics) and Liechtenstein (for the Winter Olympics).
