Avenue of Stars, London facts for kids
The Avenue of Stars was a special walkway in London, England. It was a bit like the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame in the United States. This walkway was created in 2005 to celebrate the 50th birthday of a TV channel called ITV.
The Avenue of Stars in London
The Avenue of Stars was located in Covent Garden, a popular area in London. It passed by St Paul's Church, which is often called the "Actors' Church."
This unique walkway honored people or groups from the entertainment world. They were chosen for their amazing achievements. Just like on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, each person or group had a five-pointed star. This star had their name on it and was set into the ground.
To get a star, the person or group had to be from the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, or a Commonwealth country.
The very first person to get a star on the Avenue of Stars was Jimmy Page. He is a famous guitarist from the band Led Zeppelin.
Sadly, in 2006, all the stars were taken away. This happened because they were wearing out very quickly. Now, only the old flagstones can be seen in the courtyard. An American singer named Is'real Benton later started a group to try and bring the Walk of Fame back.
