The European Canoe Sprint Championships is a big international sports event. It's all about canoeing and kayaking races. The European Canoe Association (ECA) organizes these championships.

The first event happened way back in 1933 in Prague. It was supported by the International Canoe Federation. After a break, the championships started again in 1997. Now, they happen every year!

Some athletes have won a lot of medals. Katalin Kovács from Hungary is the most successful female athlete. She has an amazing 29 gold medals! Among the men, Ronald Rauhe from Germany leads with 17 gold medals.

European Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint Championships

There are also special championships for younger athletes. These are for "Juniors" (usually under 18) and "U23" (under 23) age groups. This helps young talent grow in the sport.
