This article is about African Americans who have held important leadership jobs in U.S. states. These jobs are called "statewide executive offices." People in these roles are usually elected by voters across the entire state. Their duties are set by the state's constitution. This list includes those who were elected, took over a position, or were appointed to these offices. It does not include judges or members of state legislatures or federal lawmakers like U.S. Senators.
