List of public art in Liverpool facts for kids
The city of Liverpool has a greater number of public sculptures than almost any other place in the United Kingdom, except for Westminster in London. You can find these amazing artworks all over the city, from old statues to modern pieces.
Some of the artists who created these sculptures include famous names like Barbara Hepworth and Jacob Epstein. More recently, a local artist named Tom Murphy has made many sculptures for Liverpool.
You'll find groups of sculptures in a few main spots:
- Around St George's Hall
- In St John's Gardens
- Near the Pier Head
- Around the Palm House in Sefton Park
There are also smaller groups of sculptures in places like Old Hall Street/Exchange Flags and around The Oratory.
One of the most impressive sculptures is the Queen Victoria Monument at Derby Square. It has 26 bronze figures and is considered one of the most ambitious monuments to Queen Victoria in Britain.
This article focuses on sculptures you can see in public spaces. It doesn't include all the art inside museums like National Museums Liverpool or the fancy decorations on many buildings.
