The Nishan-e-Pakistan (which means Grand Cross of the Order of Pakistan in Urdu) is the highest award a civilian can receive in Pakistan. It's given to people who have done amazing things for Pakistan's national interest. This award can go to government officials, regular citizens of Pakistan, and even people from other countries.

In Pakistan's system of awards, the Nishan-e-Pakistan is just as important as the Nishan-e-Haider, which is the highest award for bravery in the military. The Nishan-e-Pakistan was created on March 19, 1957. It doesn't matter how important or famous a person is; anyone who meets the requirements can receive it.

This award, along with other civilian awards, is announced every year on Independence Day (August 14). The actual ceremony where the awards are given out happens on the following Pakistan Resolution Day (March 23). The president of Pakistan presents these awards. Sometimes, the award can be given to someone after they have passed away. Everyone who receives the Nishan-e-Pakistan can use "NPk" after their name.
