About the Series
Derek and Margo are two young archaeologists. They are on a dig with their friend, a boy named Moki. They find a special door in an old ruin. This door is actually a portal that can take them through time!
The start of each video is the same. But then, the three friends are sent to a different story from the Bible. They often meet the main people from these stories. However, they are careful not to change what happens. This way, history stays the same. In some episodes, they arrive many years after the events. Then, someone who was there tells them the story.
The episodes were not released in the order the stories happen in the Bible. But you can watch them to follow the Bible's timeline. They could start with "The Creation" and end with "The Easter Story." The first six episodes were about stories from the Old Testament. Later, stories about the life of Jesus were added, along with more Old Testament tales. Many famous actors lent their voices to the Bible characters in each episode.
How the Series Was Made
The idea for The Greatest Adventure came from Hanna-Barbera co-founder Joseph Barbera. He thought of it about 17 years before it was actually made! It was hard for him to get people to support the project.
Eventually, Hanna-Barbera's parent company, Taft Broadcasting, agreed to pay for it. The first video came out in 1985. Later, Turner Home Entertainment took over production in 1991. Sparrow-Star Song helped to sell the videos. They released all 13 episodes on VHS tapes. In 2006, five of these episodes were released on DVD. These included "The Miracles of Jesus," "David and Goliath," "Noah's Ark," "The Easter Story," and "Moses."
