About Charles Bennett

Charles Bennett was born in Gainesville, Florida. He is one of 11 children in his family. He lived in Gainesville until he was eight years old. Then he moved to Ocala, Florida, to live with his father.

Growing up, Charles was very athletic. He was a talented football player in high school. He played different positions like running back and linebacker. Even though he was not very tall, he also played defensive lineman. Charles later left high school. He saw an advertisement for a mixed martial arts gym. He decided to join and his coaches were very impressed with his speed and strength. This is how he started focusing on mixed martial arts.

Mixed Martial Arts Career

Starting Out

Charles Bennett made his professional debut in September 1999. He was only 19 years old at the time. His first fight was in Atlanta, Georgia, in the lightweight division. He lost that fight by submission. A year later, he got his first win. He knocked out Todd Carney in the first round. This happened at a World Extreme Fighting event.

After that, Charles won two more fights by strikes. Then he made his King of the Cage debut. He fought Duane Ludwig and lost. Charles then won 9 of his next 10 fights. One of these wins was against U.S. Marine Gerald Strebendt. His winning streak ended when he lost to Takumi Nakayama.

Fighting in Japan and King of the Cage

With a record of 12 wins and 5 losses, Charles signed with a Japanese promotion called Pride Fighting Championships. His first fight there was in October 2004. He fought Takanori Gomi in Japan and lost.

After fighting a few times back in King of the Cage, Charles returned to Pride. In May 2005, he defeated Yoshiro Maeda by knockout. This win happened in less than two minutes.

In September, Charles fought again in Pride. He lost to Dokonjonosuke Mishima by submission. He then fought for the King of the Cage Bantamweight Championship. He lost to Urijah Faber. Charles then fought Ken Kaneko in Pride in December 2005. He won that fight by submission. After winning, he tackled the referee.
