Charles Daniel Bennett (born November 23, 1979) is an American mixed martial artist. He competes in the featherweight division of Gamebred Fighting Championship. He is also a bare-knuckle boxer and has fought in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).

Charles Bennett is known for his exciting and surprising fighting style. He has been a professional fighter since 1999. He has competed in major organizations like PRIDE Fighting Championships and Rizin FF. Even though he has not won a championship in MMA, many fans enjoy watching him fight.

Early Life and Training

Charles Bennett was born in Gainesville, Florida. He is one of 11 children. When he was eight, he moved to Ocala, Florida, to live with his father. Charles had a difficult childhood. He was very athletic and a talented American football player in high school. He played different positions like running back and linebacker.

However, Charles faced many challenges growing up. He eventually left high school. Later, he discovered an advertisement for a mixed martial arts gym in Ocala. He decided to join and train there. His coaches were very impressed by his speed and strength. The birth of his first child motivated him to focus on mixed martial arts. He also credits Terry Trebilcock Jr., who owns King of the Cage, for helping him improve his life.

Mixed Martial Arts Journey

Starting His Career

Charles Bennett began his professional fighting career in September 1999. He was only 19 years old. His first fight was in Atlanta, Georgia, where he lost by submission. A year later, he earned his first professional win. He knocked out Todd Carney in the first round at a World Extreme Fighting event.

After that, Charles won two more fights by strikes. He then made his debut in King of the Cage against Duane Ludwig. He lost that fight. However, he went on to win 9 of his next 10 fights. This included a win over Gerald Strebendt. His winning streak ended when he lost to Takumi Nakayama.

Fighting in Japan and King of the Cage

With a record of 12 wins and 5 losses, Charles Bennett joined the Japanese fighting promotion PRIDE Fighting Championships. His first fight for PRIDE was on October 14, 2004, against Takanori Gomi. This was also his first fight overseas. He lost this match by a submission move called a kimura.

After some fights back in King of the Cage, Charles returned to PRIDE on May 22, 2005. He defeated Yoshiro Maeda by knockout in the first round. On September 25, he fought again for PRIDE, losing to Dokonjonosuke Mishima. He then tried to win the King of the Cage Bantamweight Championship but lost to Urijah Faber.

At the end of 2005, Charles fought Ken Kaneko at Pride FC: Shockwave 2005. He won this fight with an armbar submission. After his win, he had a memorable moment where he tackled the referee. Charles Bennett's last fight for PRIDE was on June 4, 2006, against Tatsuya Kawajiri. He lost this fight by kneebar submission. His record with PRIDE was 2 wins and 3 losses.

EliteXC and Other Activities

On February 10, 2007, Charles Bennett joined EliteXC for their first event, EliteXC: Destiny. He fought K. J. Noons and won by knockout. This was considered an upset victory.

In 2004, Charles Bennett also appeared in a film called Loren Cass with other fighters. In September 2010, he tried out for The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck, a popular reality TV show about fighters, but he did not make it onto the final team.

Returning to MMA

After almost three years away from fighting, Charles Bennett returned to MMA in October 2015. He rejoined his former organization, King of the Cage. He fought six times in the next eleven months, winning four fights and losing two.

In September 2016, Charles fought for Rizin Fighting Federation in Japan. He competed in the featherweight division. He defeated Minoru Kimura by technical knockout in just 7 seconds of the first round. After the fight, Charles famously challenged Wanderlei Silva, a well-known fighter. This challenge became very popular online because of Charles's energetic personality.

Fight Circus Appearance

On September 29, 2024, Charles Bennett took part in Fight Circus 8 in Phuket, Thailand. He competed in a special 2-on-1 MMA match against two Thai fighters, "Bank" and "No Money." The Thai fighters won the match by submitting Charles with a rear-naked choke.

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship

Charles Bennett also competes in bare-knuckle boxing, where fighters use no gloves. On August 25, 2018, he fought Michael McDonald at a Bare Knuckle FC event. He lost the fight by technical knockout in the fourth round due to a hand injury.

He fought again for Bare Knuckle FC on November 16, 2019, against Johnny Bedford. He lost this fight in the second round, also due to a hand injury. His third bare-knuckle fight was on December 11, 2020, against Tyler Goodjohn. He lost this match by a unanimous decision.
