Connecticut's 3rd congressional district is an area in the state of Connecticut that elects a person to represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives. This district is located in the central part of Connecticut. It includes the city of New Haven and many towns around it.

The main cities in this district are Middletown, New Haven, and Stratford.

Currently, the district is represented by Rosa DeLauro, who is a member of the Democratic Party.

What is the 3rd Congressional District Like?

The 3rd congressional district has been around since 1837. It was created from a larger district that covered the whole state. The district is mostly focused on New Haven and the towns nearby.

It covers most of New Haven County. It also includes a small part of Middlesex County, like most of Middletown. A small part of Fairfield County, including most of Stratford and a small section of Shelton, is also in this district.

The areas around New Haven tend to vote for Democratic candidates. This makes the 3rd district a very strong Democratic area in elections. In fact, among all the districts in Connecticut, only the 1st congressional district is considered more Democratic.

Four major Democratic-supporting towns are New Haven, Hamden, Middletown, and West Haven. These towns make up about 40% of all the people in the district. Since the year 2000, Democratic candidates for president have won in this district by a large amount.

Democrats have held this district for most of the time since 1933. There were only a few times when a Republican was elected.
