Sukhumi or Sokhumi (Georgian: სოხუმი) is a city in Georgia. It is the capital city of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia.
Sokhumi was a multi-ethnic city. The people were Georgians, Abkhazians (Apsuans), Russians, Armenians and Greeks during Soviet Rule. During the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict Georgians in Abkhazia were forced to leave. Most Greeks have also left.
