What Does It Look Like?
This spleenwort fern has thick, triangle-shaped leaves. Each leaf can grow up to 10 centimeters (about 4 inches) long. These leaves are divided into many smaller parts.
The stem that holds the leaf is reddish-green. The main vein of the leaf is shiny and a bit hairy. If you look underneath each small leaf part, you'll see tiny brown spots. These spots are called sori, and they are where the fern's spores (like tiny seeds) are made. They are usually lined up in rows.
