List of MPs elected to the English parliament in 1626 facts for kids
This article is about the second Parliament that met during the time of King Charles I in 1626. A Parliament is like a big meeting where elected people, called members of Parliament (MPs), come together to discuss important issues and make laws for the country.
This Parliament started on February 6, 1626. It only lasted a few months, ending on June 15, 1626, when King Charles I decided to close it down. During this time, the King and Parliament often disagreed on how the country should be run and how money should be raised.

What was the 1626 Parliament?
The Parliament of 1626 was a group of people chosen to represent different parts of England and Wales. These representatives, called Members of Parliament (MPs), met in London to advise the King and help make decisions.
Who were the Members of Parliament?
MPs were usually important men from different areas, like towns and counties. They were elected to speak for the people in their "constituencies" (the areas they represented). The list below shows some of the people who were MPs in this Parliament. They came from all over England and Wales, from places like Bedfordshire to Yorkshire.
Key Figures in the Parliament
One important person in this Parliament was Sir Heneage Finch. He was the Speaker, which means he was in charge of leading the discussions and making sure everyone followed the rules. He was like the referee of the Parliament meetings.
Other important MPs included:
- John Pym: A very influential MP who often spoke out about the King's policies.
- Sir Edward Coke: A famous lawyer and former judge who was also a strong voice in Parliament.
These individuals, and many others listed in the original records, played a part in the important discussions that took place during this short but significant Parliament.
List of Constituencies and Members
The Parliament was made up of representatives from many different areas across England and Wales. Each area, called a constituency, would elect one or two Members of Parliament (MPs) to represent them. Below is a simplified list of some of the counties and towns that sent MPs to the 1626 Parliament.
