- March: The explorer William Dampier was the first person to officially visit Christmas Island. It's a small island in the Indian Ocean.
- April 18: A group of Quakers in Germantown, America, wrote an important protest. They spoke out against slavery, saying it was wrong. This was one of the first protests against slavery in North America.
- April 29: Frederick I of Prussia became the Elector (a powerful ruler) of Brandenburg. This area was a very important part of what would later become Prussia.
- June 30: A secret group of powerful people, called the "Immortal Seven," invited William of Orange and Mary to come to England. They wanted William and Mary to take over the throne from King James II of England.
- July: In Thailand, a leader named Phetracha started a coup d'état. This is when a group suddenly takes control of the government. Phetracha then became the new king of Ayutthaya.
- October 27: King James II of England fired his important helper, Robert Spencer, who was the Earl of Sunderland.
- November 5: The Glorious Revolution began in England. William of Orange landed with his army at Brixham. King James II tried to fight him, but many of his own soldiers and officers left him and joined William's side.
- November 9: William of Orange took control of the city of Exeter. The city's leaders had already run away.
