List of Michigan State Historic Sites facts for kids
Michigan is home to many amazing places that tell stories about its past! These special spots are called Michigan State Historic Sites. They are like treasures that help us remember important events, people, and buildings from long ago.
The Michigan State Historic Preservation Office helps take care of these sites. This office was created in the late 1960s to protect Michigan's history. As of June 2011, there were over 2,700 historic sites all across Michigan's 83 counties. Some of these sites are so important that they are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Michigan (marked with a dagger †). A few are even called National Historic Landmarks (marked with a double dagger ‡), which means they are super important to the history of the entire United States!
There are many historic sites in every county of Michigan. Some counties have a few, while others have more than a hundred! You can find out more about the sites in specific counties by looking at their individual lists.
