The International Coffee Organization (ICO) is a special group that helps countries involved with coffee. It was started in 1963 in London, England. The United Nations (UN) helped create it because coffee is so important for the economy.
The ICO manages something called the International Coffee Agreement (ICA). This agreement helps countries work together. It supports their growth and cooperation in the coffee world.

How the ICO Started
The ICO was created after a five-year agreement was signed in 1962. This agreement was made at the UN in New York City. Over the years, the agreement has been updated many times. These updates happened in 1968, 1976, 1983, 1994, and 2007. All these updates took place at the ICO's office in London.
How the ICO Works
The highest group in the ICO is called the International Coffee Council. This council has representatives from every member country. They meet twice a year, in March and September. During these meetings, they talk about coffee issues. They also approve important plans and ideas.
The main office of the ICO is in London. It is located at 222 Gray's Inn Road. The current leader of the ICO is Vanúsia Nogueira from Brazil.
In June 2018, the United States left the International Coffee Agreement. As of early 2022, most of the world's coffee is produced by ICO members. About 93% of all coffee production comes from these countries. Also, 63% of the world's coffee is bought by ICO importing members.
Who are the Members?
As of February 2, 2022, the ICO has 42 countries that produce coffee. It also has 7 members that import coffee.
