Amazing Animals at Barcelona Zoo
Barcelona Zoo is home to many different animals from all over the world. You can explore various areas designed to look like their natural homes.
Terrarium: Reptiles and Amphibians
The Terrarium opened in 1972. It is one of the biggest collections of reptiles and amphibians in Europe. Here you can see many fascinating creatures, from tiny frogs to large snakes.
Aviary: Birds from Around the World
The Aviary was built in the 1970s and updated in 2002. It houses about 70 different kinds of birds. These birds come from various parts of the world, showing off their unique colors and calls.
Palmeral: Macaws and Cockatoos
Near the zoo's entrance, you'll find the Palmeral. This area has thirteen aviaries filled with colorful macaws and cockatoos. Their homes are made from bright wooden huts or strong steel.
Marmoset Gallery: Small Monkeys
The Marmoset Gallery was built in 1990. It has both indoor and outdoor spaces for seven different kinds of marmosets and tamarins. These are small, active monkeys that are fun to watch.
Sahel Savannah: African Wildlife
A new area called the Sahel Savannah was built in 2018. This space was created to make better homes for the zoo's African animals. You can see giraffes, lions, and African elephants here. The area has plants like acacias and grasses, just like the Sahel region in Africa. This area was once home to Yoyo, an African elephant. When she passed away in 2024, she was thought to be the oldest African elephant living in a zoo.
