Matamoros–Brownsville is a special kind of city area. It's often called the Borderplex. This area crosses the Mexico–United States border. It is one of six such areas along this border.

The city of Matamoros is in Mexico. It sits on the south side of the Rio Grande river. Right across the river, on the north side, is Brownsville. Brownsville is in the U.S. state of Texas.

These two cities are very close. They are connected by four international bridges. This large area has over 1.1 million people. It is the fourth-largest city area on the Mexico-U.S. border. The Matamoros–Brownsville area is also one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States.
